The Iomega external hard drive arrived quickly. I could configure to use with my Mac laptop and I myself am not a tech person. The problem was the possibility for directions that are included say to reformat Mac before the opening of Time Machine. My Mac has prompted me to go into the machine the first time. At first I tried to comply with written instructions, but when I went back to Time Machine and followed the instructions, everything fell into place and I successfully reformatted to Mac and used Iomega for my backup. I trusted my Mac to start! The Iomega is stylish, compact and beautiful setting on a desk.

I do not need any special software, I just need lots of extra storage capacity. I wish he had been long enough to examine the reliability, but so far it works perfectly prepared. First impression
He ordered yesterday (today 10/06/2010) … received this morning (about 14 hours from order to delivery of a first …).
I bought for my iMac. It has been formatted for Windoze. It took Less Than a minute to reformat (Mac Journaled).
This is on my external drive 25 (I learned that redundancy helps me sleep at night). No reader will not last forever. One day … they all stopped work. I have owned almost every brand at least once. I was particularly disappointed by new WD (particularly myBooks), I 4, all worthless, Maxtor (3) again … another brand totally unreliable for me. I got lucky with Seagate, LaCie, Iomega (Readers of Travel). This is my first big Iomega.
I have 8 computers (Mac and windoze) in my house (each room) … This was by far the easiest to implement.
BIG BONUS: this is the first record I've ever had, which have exactly the amount of storage as the name implies. I full 2TB. Rock on!
It was easily recognized and mounted by my powered hub. I have many readers who do not wish to mount a hub. If you have an iMac … then you know he did not have enough ports (damn apple … always try scalability sub-gun).
It is completely silent when running. I wish it had Firewire … but what you do.
Far … recommend this. Will update review if it fails prematurely (I think every player should take two years … after that I consider new backup disk and backup).

I need one second external HD to backup all my precious, priceless photos and videos digital my daughter and I took the family over the years. It is simply not enough to save important files on any other external HD if you want your data is totally secure. Even external hard drive can fail without warning, so you should have two to one held in home, and another small, portable one kept offsite (parent, cousin's house, house best friend, etc.). The probability of two default time is very low. Just take a home off-site back occasionally to update with your latest files. What I am for complete peace of mind is, I have a small laptop WD 250GB Portable External HD, the size of a deck of cards. I frequently back Iomega Prestige drive to my (my primary drive), and double backup my WD portable HD as mentioned above (which again, is kept off site). It make my data available should there be a loss in a fire, theft, or unit failure. Speaking of the Iomega Prestige, it is fantastic. It works great, looks great, and a flight at current prices. It is true plug & play, and works without any software clumsy. You plug it in, your PC, it recognizes the HDD Iomega logo appears under 'My Computer' and you're ready to upload or retrieve files! For those of you who are not technicians, which is ideal. It takes literally 2 minutes from time to connect the cables to the time you are "cut and paste, slide, or "sending" files. Also, it is not strong at all, and practice toggle power switch on the back unit, which reduces wear and tear. Simply turn the unit off when not in use. Finally, the unit is not higher than most other HD. Buy with confidence.
