Recording video to provide on the Internet?

Here’s the deal…

I am the videographer for our church, and I am working on a new system to provide video of the services over the church website. My plan is to buy a 1TB harddrive to store the video on, and I’ll set it up as an ftp server to allow people to download the video through the website.

Here’s my questions…

1. What sort of card/adapter do I need to record the video from a video camera (RCA component output)?

2. What format should I save the video in to make it downloadable? Keep in mind that the files need to be relatively small/compressed in order to allow reasonable download times.

3. I might be interested in streaming the video as well as providing the video for download, so how might I go about doing that? I know you can stream video through WMP and RealPlayer, but I have never been able to find out how.

Thank you SO much for your help!

You will need a video capture card. These are commonly called TV capture cards Do a search for Hauppage.

I would recommend you encode for streaming whether you are streaming or not because of compatibility.

You will probably need a dedicated server if you intend to stream and there will be a lot of people downloading. The place to start learning to stream is Windows media encoder software. After capturing the video, you would encode it for streaming. WME will assist on port openings and web server settings.
