What size/color reflector is best for outdoor portrait photography?
What size could I get away with using for just one person as my subject? What about a group of, say, 5 people (family portraits)? And what color is most flattering, gold, silver, sunlight, white?? Can anyone give me some examples of the differences the colors make?
For one person, if you are doing mostly face-shots, I would say go with a 42″. If you are doing full-body or for 5+ people, go with the one in the link below 39″x72″.
Most reflectors have two sides. Gold and white are the most natural looking, and most flattering for people. This of course depends on the person (skin colour too) and the look you’re going for. Silver gives a “cold” look and, obviously, gold gives a “warm” look. White is most natural, since it just reflects the colour of the sunlight, which is the best for human portraits. This is why all photographers prefer to shoot either early in the morning, or later in the day when the sun is not too harsh or bright.
For one person photos, diffusers also work very well.
