Did anyone disagree with Galileo Galilei’s astronomical observations or scientific opinions?
If someone did please tell me who. Did the Catholic Church disagree with it?
the catholic church was happy with the aristotilian view that ours was a geocentric universe i.e. everything revolved around the earth. but then Galileo came up with the concept of heliocentric system where we revolved around the sun this was something that the church could not accept after all they felt that god made everything centered around human kind.
so because they could not accept this they confined galileo to house arrest for the rest of his life where i believe he went blind from observing the sun and sun spots using his telescope.
but after years of research and a lot of proof we are certain that we revolve around the sun and so the church had no choice but to accept that they had made a mistake with galileo.
