Ham Radio Antennas Dipoles

Questions about yagi antennas?

I have just bought a Yaesu VX-6r handheld ham radio. This radio only puts out 5 watts, so I would like to build a yagi antenna to reach some farther places. I have found a good antenna here (www.arrl.org/tis/info/pdf/9304054.pdf) and I was wondering if 7 db gain is good? I’m pretty sure that this guy is basing is measurments off of a half wave dipole antenna for gain. I know that 7 db is okay, but does anyone have any other designs for yagi antennas?

See http://www.k7mem.150m.com/Electronic_Notebook/antennas/yagi_vhf.html for Yagi design with more gain. Also try http://www.dxzone.com/catalog/Antennas/Yagi/.
