Seagate External Hard Drive Price
is the apple time capsule worth the price?
I need an external Hard Drive to back up files and have been looking at the 1tb time capsule I will be backing up two apple mac books and I am wondering if the time capsule is worth the 329 dollar canadian price tag or would a cheaper say seagate brand hard drive be as good for less money?
If you just need a simple backup drive. then, get the seagate. But the Time Capsule is much more than just an external HD.
TC is an AirPort Extreme, and a Server Grade HDD (10k RPM) built into a nice little package.
If both your macbooks support 802.11n then its the perfect companion. it will give you “n” wireless in your house (as well as it has dual antennas for those other devices in your house that aren’t “n”) and it utilizes the 5ghz network, for ultrafast file transfers between the TC and the MB.
It also has a neat feature called guest network. so your friends can connect to your network without having access to the computers on the LAN.
And if you have a MobileMe subscription, your drive can be accessed from anywhere. So your always a mouse click from your back-ups.
Also, utilizing the neat automatic backup features of Time Machine, your MB will automatically back up as soon as they are on the network. So you dont have to plug/unplug an external drive.
The TC also has a USB port on it for plugging a printer into the network. so you can share a USB printer wirelessly with everyone on the network!
If you take advantage of all it has to offer, then yes, its so worth it.
