Korea CCTV Camera Contributes to Decreasing Crime Rate
The Korean government’s effort to install a mass number of CCTVs in the cities have paid off with a dramatically decreased crime rate.
Since the installation of CCTV camera in Korea, citizen’s anxiety of crime is also decreasing. Areas in which Korea CCTV cameras have been installed have experienced reduced occurrences of robbery, burglary and rape.
In 2008, the total number of Korea CCTV cameras installed in the Seoul area was approximately 8,000. The next year, the number doubled to 16,000. The number of CCTV cameras is increasing drastically every year.
Almost two million CCTV cameras have been installed throughout South Korea. The National Police Agency forecasts that it will install more Korea CCTV cameras for the ongoing pursuit of a zero-rate crime status. However, some people insist that CCTV cameras could invade individual privacy.
