Question For TiVo Need help?

I want to connect an external Hard Drive naked in my Tivo set top box, but I do not want to use the 1TB Western Digital hard drive is TiVo. Instead I want to use a Western Digital MyBook 500GB that TiVo does not seem to detect. So my questions are: Is there a hack or a way to get a normal hard disk to work on TiVo? If there is a way, do you know if it would work or have you tried? If it works, can you programs you have stored on your hard disk and copy them to your PC? if I could get help to do this, it would be very appreciated. ~ ~ Thanks
