You should not need to backup the entire disk. You mainly need data. Like most of this is for your records and documents that you can simply copy the entire folder to the outside. Even if you do not save any the disc, it will not help you recover programs after a serious data loss, you need to load-r to obtain registry settings correct for them to run.
